Take a look at the Gopro Karma promo video.

It really does sell the drone dosn’t it and I’m sure many thousands did just that as it features some nice flight modes.

Belowe we have listed the Karma’s flight modes, though basic they represent some of the most difficult camera movement shots that every drone pilot wants to master.

GoPro Karma Flight modes:
The Orbit flight mode:
The Gopro Karma’s Orbit flight mode is just like DJI’s point of interest, in this flight mode the Karma drone flies in a circle around a your choosen point of interest be it yourself or something else of interest. You need fly the Karma over your point of interest to set the centre point, move the drome back 5m / 16ft away from the centre point and go. The nice feature in the orbit flight mode is that you can still rotate the drone 90 degrees in either direction, adjust the altitude and increase or decrease the circle radius.

The Dronie flight mode:
The Karma is taking selfies to the next level by zooming out from your perspective with the ultimate selfi shot “Dronie”.
Using this flight mode will make the drone point toward the pilot/controller, then the Karma drone flies away and upwards at a smooth steady pace. You also have control over the camera roll and Tilt as the drone moves away if needed and you have the option of cancelling this shot mid flight if you wish.

The Cable Cam flight mode:
The Karma Drone cable cam feature is a flight mode where you simply set two location points and the Karma drone will fly in a straight line back and forth between those points until you cancel the maneuver, also you can adjust the velocity, speed, and vertical position of the drone in mid flight.

The Reveal flight mode:
The money shot, the BIG reveal shot that every blockbuster movie director utilises. It’s a simple flight mode that flies the drone straight ahead while tilting the camera up to the horizon giving you the BIG Reveal. This is a little like the cable cam flight mode as the drone flies from one point to another. You set the camera tilt at the starting and ending points, so the camera gradually reveals a scene as the move progresses. You can also adjust the speed of the reveal whilst in reveal mode.

GoPro Karma Pros & Cons
We’ll start off with the Cons first.
The Cons
Flight Times: It says 20min but it’s more like 15min max.
Size & Weight: Its big and heavy compared to the DJI Mavic Pro but then again everything is in that class.
Stability: With only GPS positioning, drifting is clearly seen when the the karma is stationary.
No Obstacle Avoidance: Yep no obstacle avoidance but it’s important to add that obstacle avoidance only works in a few flight modes in DJI drones.
Cost: The basic Karma kit costs more than the mavic pro kit but you do get a hero 5 and the grip to play with.
No Hero3 Support: From what we’ve seen there is no support for the gorp hero 3 on the Karma and the karma grip.

The Pros
Flight modes: Simple but very effective flight modes that make you look like a pro.
Parts: Lots of replacement parts can be found in the online store.
