DJI F550 Fly Away over Denver

Classic DJI flyaway DENVER - We've seen flyers for lost dogs, lost cats, even lost birds, but never a lost drone -- until now. Loyal Merrick says his $2,000 Storm Drone 6 with a $400 GoPro camera attached just floated off like a balloon. He has posted flyers around the Denver metro area. You can now join the FlyAway Club 7NEWS has discovered that drones floating away from their operators are becoming more common with this new technology."This one makes it bank, this one makes it turn," said Merrick as he showed how the controls work on the transmitter. He still has the transmitter, but as for the aircraft itself, it's gone. "I tried to run in the direction to get closer to it, and I don't know," said Merrick. "I just lost track of it. It's that simple." Merrick was flying the drone on Friday over the now closed Rosedale Elementary School. "And then it got a little bit too high," he said. So, he hit the fail-safe button on the transmitter. "It's supposed to return to its exact take-off spot," said Merrick. "Just like a boomerang. It didn't do that. It just kept flying off in the same direction." 7NEWS discovered several drone blogs indicate this is a common problem. Merrick invested in his drone for a possible future aerial photography business. "If you can get a GoPro up in the air at the right place, it just can capture the beauty of Colorado," said Merrick. "I could use it to photograph real estate, especially high-end real estate, weddings, bike races, events. Right now it's just a hobby, but it could be a career." Even though the FAA has declared you can't fly drones for commercial gain, Congress has mandated the FAA integrate drones into commercial airspace next year. "I took a big risk, but that's what entrepreneurs do." As for the liability of the drone flying off, Merrick says even if it crashed it wouldn't do much damage because the carbon fiber is so lightweight, and the drone itself is noisy. "So it's not going to sneak up on people. It's not going to be hitting people. People are going to see it and get the heck out of the way," Merrick said. "For me, this was just a very expensive first mistake." Copyright 2014 Scripps Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

28 Minute Phantom 2 Vision Flight Test

Yes the DJI Phantom 2 Vision can fly for 28 minutes Like most people I doubted that the Phantom 2 Vision can actually fly for 25 minutes, so Mr Colin Quinn of DJI went out to do a little endurance test. Flew two flights, both over 25 minutes.

DJI Phantom Error Codes Guide

A list of error codes you could have from the DJI Phantom and what they mean. Light sequence- red-green-orange This is also known as the Acc Y ERROR - ERR{26} The Fix: This type of error is caused by the NAZA unit inside the Phantom being subject to a crash or a shipping handle jarring and sudden G force. The fix involves removing the NAZA unit from the body of the Phantom ; disconnecting all wiring - apply a sharp G force to it (tapping it once briskly against a table top) - re-install the naza unit, test all systems and then fly. Sharing Naza-M Assistant Software Error Code List here so that you can get a good knowledge of the errors and how to fix it! CFG-ERR Configuration error, this may cause by firmware upgrade from old version. or abnormal Tx calibration. Re-calibrate your transmitter, and power cycle your controller and check all of the parameters. VOL-LOW Voltage low SN-ERR Your S/N is not available, Please contact our support! VOL-LOW Voltage low IMU-ERR IMU ERROR,Please contact dealer or DJI for repair. X1-ERR You’ve chose parameters tuning by X1/X2 channel with Tx Knob, but no signal detected on X1/X2 input channel, or Tx didn’t powered on. X2-ERR You’ve chose parameters tuning by X1/X2 channel with Tx Knob, but no signal detected on X1/X2 input channel, or Tx didn’t powered on. PMU-ERR Please check the connection among battery, MC and PMU. RX-ERR Please may sure you select the right receiver type in the RC page or check the receiver connection, after that power cycle your controller to take effect. COMPASS-ERR Compass data is abnormal, please restart your Controller, if you still get this error, please contact the agent. ERROR IMU initialization failure, may caused by crash. Please contact dealer or DJI for repair. ERROR Please perform Advanced Calibration. ERROR GPS not calibrated, or magnetic field interference. Please calibrate GPS again in good condition.

DJI NAZA V2 GPS PMU

DJI has continued improving the Naza Flight Controller, the latest is the Naza M V2 which is the next exciting product to the market with the latest technology being integrated in to the new NAZA M V2. The basic functionality will remain the same as DJI NAZA V1, however there are a few new features. The main controller hardware structure has been optimized and the expandability and performance of the flight control system has been enhanced further with new attitude stabilization algorithms, these provide better flight performance / manoeuvrability and a new level of flight control performance which provides a better flight experience; (flight control is smoother, take-off is easier). The Naza M V2 has support for OctoCopter and has the added safety feature on HexaCopter and OctoCopter should a motor stop working it can still be landed safely.  The Naza M V2 has automatic course deviation compensation, this reduces the effects of magnetic disturbance and interference around the compass, there is a warning on detection of magnetic disturbance. The IMU advanced calibration; error identification and warning reduce the impact of sensor errors in flight so increasing the overall performance. The GPS unit added to the Naza M V2 will see great position holding and RTL features for additional safety. The V2 NAZA with the GPS unit will have IOC to help new and experienced pilots gain the most from their systems with easy orientation assistance while flying at greater distances. Here's some video from DJI on the Naza V2, sorry they are a bit crap.
